Cape Town, the ailing world class film city is to be revived after a period of closure due to poor funding and lack of support. The Cape Town Film Commission inactivity had affected many who depended on it as a medium of job creation. The Commission provided job opportunities to over 10,000 people both directly and indirectly and had also championed film shooting and productions in South Africa.
The Cape Town City announced in a meeting with stakeholders that they would be supporting the industry financially for the sake of job creation for the youth in the Western hub. It must be recalled that the Cape Town Film Commission has had a big contribution to the South African economy and had also brought big Hollywood names into the South African industry including Nicolas Cage, Hillary Swank and Ryan Reynolds.
Movies such as Lord of War, Blood Diamond and Safe House among others have been produced in Cape Town and more are to come following the revival of the industry.
