Artistic life is all about focus; focusing on your plans makes it easy to achieve your dreams. Peter Mokaya aka Salvany shares his journey in the game and all he’s been through. He sticks to one basic thing and the story below tells it all.
Your name, nickname, current residence and what you do as an artiste?
I am Peter Mokaya aka Prince Salvany residing in Mukuru Kwa Reuben. Am an actor.
Could you describe one of your typical workdays?
Mondays and Tuesdays are typical workdays. Especially on Mondays because being a Secretary I always have a busy day preparing the daily and weekly schedule
What skills are required in your position on a day-to-day basis?
Yes, for one to perfect in arts Patience is a necessity.
What do you find most enjoyable?
Family and friends are what keeps my day short because when am with them I always feel sorted.
Are there any inspirations in your job, mention any?
So far the Dream Cream Nation (DCN) has taken a step forward by shooting a comedy video and sharing it on the group’s YouTube channel.
Which seasons of the year are toughest in your job?
To me it all depends with one’s dreams and planning.
How would you describe government support for your field?
In my opinion the government does not support the arts field. Lack of platforms and funds are some of the challenges that the government should have been sorting to motivate those with artistic talents. Like when the 2018/2019 budget was read I was surprised not to hear any allocation for the arts field.
Is there enough room for more with such a dream?
You know art is a very diverse field and there is always room for those with passion. I guess this is the only field where your education does not play a bigger role, commitment and passion determine your success.
Why do some people quite this industry?
Many people quit not because they lack talent but because they lack patience. Arts field pays but one has to embrace patience before harvesting the fruits of this field.
Who are your greatest motivators in the industry today?
Frank Artus, a popular actor from Ghana is my greatest motivator. Reading his background story then comparing to his present you learn there is hope in arts but it depends on patience and passion. My second motivator is my girlfriend who is a pillar that keeps me strong. She inspires me and gives me the reason to press on and and on in my dreams.
How long does it take for one to rise to the top?
Mhhhhh! It takes time to rise in this field. I can’t give an exact figure or timeline but I believe it depends on the level of passion and how you push on.
Considering all the people you’ve met in your field, what personal attributes are essential for success?
Patience and respect are the greatest virtues here.
Is there anything else you think an ambitious youth would need to know about this field?
This field needs no regular supervision, its all about patience, passion and commitment.
